BCCI Condemns Killing of Afghan Cricketers, Calls It a ‘Cowardly Act’ in Veiled Dig

BCCI strongly condemns the brutal killing of Afghan cricketers, calling it a cowardly act and emphasizing that sports must remain above violence and politics.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the killing of Afghan cricketers, describing the incident as a “cowardly and inhuman act.” The Indian cricket board, in its statement, extended condolences to the families of the victims and to the Afghanistan cricket community, urging for justice and peace.

In what many see as a veiled dig at forces promoting instability in the region, the BCCI highlighted that “sports symbolize unity, respect, and hope — not hatred or destruction.” The board reiterated that athletes represent the spirit of nations and that any harm inflicted upon them is an attack on global sportsmanship.

BCCI’s message comes amid growing international condemnation of the violence that took the lives of young Afghan players. Cricket fans and officials worldwide have called for stronger protection for athletes, especially in conflict-affected countries like Afghanistan.

Cricket has long been a symbol of resilience in Afghanistan, inspiring youth even in the face of adversity. The BCCI’s strong stance reinforces the broader belief that the sports community must stand united against acts that threaten players’ safety and dignity.
