Ahmedabad has been officially confirmed as the host city for the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games, marking a historic moment for India and a major boost to the country’s global sporting presence.
This announcement places Ahmedabad on the world sports map, making it only the second Indian city to host the Commonwealth Games after New Delhi in 2010. The 2030 edition carries special significance as it marks the 100-year celebration of the Commonwealth Games.
The city will host the event primarily at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave, which includes world-class facilities, the Narendra Modi Stadium, aquatics centres, indoor arenas, and a dedicated athletes’ village. Massive urban development, upgraded transportation networks, and hospitality expansion are also planned to welcome athletes, officials, and global spectators.
The Games are expected to feature 15–17 sports, including athletics, swimming, gymnastics, boxing, weightlifting, table tennis, and several para-sports categories. Additional disciplines like T20 cricket, judo, triathlon, and shooting are likely to be included.
This landmark achievement highlights India’s growing capability to host international events and boosts prospects for future global bids, including the possible 2036 Olympic Games. The 2030 Commonwealth Games will not only showcase sporting excellence but also India’s cultural vibrancy, tourism appeal, and world-class infrastructure.
