Harendra Singh Steps Down as India Women’s Hockey Team Coach

Harendra Singh has resigned from his role as head coach of the Indian women’s hockey team, citing personal reasons.

Harendra Singh, who took over the women’s team in 2024, announced his immediate resignation in a formal email to Hockey India. His departure comes at a crucial phase when the team is preparing for upcoming international tournaments.

Hockey India thanked Harendra Singh for his service and acknowledged his contribution to the team’s development. During his tenure, India experienced mixed results, including strong performances in regional tournaments but struggles in international league fixtures.

Sources suggest that Hockey India may consider bringing back former coach Sjoerd Marijne, who previously guided the team to a historic fourth-place finish at the Tokyo Olympics. A final decision is expected soon.

Harendra Singh expressed gratitude in his farewell note, stating that coaching the team was an honour and that he will continue supporting Indian hockey in the future.

His sudden exit has created uncertainty, but officials assured that training schedules and preparations will continue without disruption until a new coach is appointed.
