New Delhi, 27 October 2025: A serious case of alleged medical negligence and human rights violations has surfaced at the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre (ISIC), Vasant Kunj, after Amit Kumar, editor-in-chief of Sea and Coast Maritime Media & Analysts, raised grave concerns regarding the treatment of his father, Mr. Krishan Pal Singh, a senior citizen and heart patient undergoing dialysis.
According to Mr. Amit Kumar, his father though fully conscious and medically stable was kept in the ICU for an unnecessarily prolonged period, despite repeated requests to shift him to a ward. He claims this extended ICU stay, without medical justification, led to extreme mental distress, a condition commonly known as ICU psychosis or ICU delirium, involving confusion, agitation, and hallucinations.
Mr. Kumar further alleged that the hospital administration, particularly staff member Ms. Komal, attempted to mislead and suppress his concerns, showing disregard for patient rights and transparency. He also pointed out that the administrative inaction and deliberate delay in necessary procedures amounted to a violation of basic human rights, comparing the ICU confinement to being kept in a “medical prison.”
“The ICU, when misused for non-critical patients, becomes no less than a jail for them. It is a gross violation of dignity and humanity,” Mr. Kumar stated.
He emphasized that the admin team must be penalized and held accountable for suppressing genuine complaints while drawing high salaries without fulfilling their ethical or humanitarian duties.
Mr. Kumar has requested the Union Ministry of Health and the Medical Council of India to initiate a formal investigation and issue a showcause notice to the hospital for alleged negligence, financial misconduct, and human rights violations.
The hospital management, when contacted, has yet to issue an official statement regarding these allegations.
If proven, the case could raise critical questions about private healthcare governance, patient rights, and the moral responsibilities of medical institutions toward senior citizens in India.
