Gautam Gambhir has firmly refused to resign as India’s head coach, stating that his future will be decided only by the BCCI, even as pressure mounts after India’s heavy Test series defeat.
Gambhir addressed the media after India’s disappointing 0–2 Test series loss, where he made it clear that he is not stepping down on his own. He emphasized that he serves at the BCCI’s discretion and will continue to do so until the board decides otherwise.
He added that victories and defeats are part of the sport, and the entire team — including him — must take responsibility. Critics, however, argue that India’s red-ball performance has dipped sharply and that the team needs a new direction.
Despite the backlash, Gambhir highlighted India’s achievements during his tenure, including major white-ball tournament victories. The BCCI has not yet issued an official statement regarding any coaching changes.
The situation has now sparked debates about whether India needs format-specific coaches, especially for Test cricket. Fans and experts remain divided, but the decision ultimately rests with the BCCI.
