The Indian prime minister will be making his first visit to Ukraine since the two nations' diplomatic relations were established thirty years ago.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Departs for a Historic Official Visit to Poland and Ukraine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed from New Delhi today for an official visit to Poland and Ukraine. The visit, which marks a pivotal moment in India's foreign relations, is expected to bolster bilateral ties, enhance economic cooperation, and address pressing regional issues.

The Prime Minister's visit to Poland is seen as a strategic effort to deepen India's ties with Central Europe. Poland, a key member of the European Union, has emerged as an important partner for India in recent years. The two nations share common interests in trade, investment, defense, and cultural exchange. During the visit, Prime Minister Modi is expected to engage in high-level talks with Polish President Andrzej Duda to expand economic cooperation and strengthen defense partnerships.

From Poland, PM Modi will travel to the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv on a train called Rail Force One. It will be his first visit to Ukraine since Kyiv was attacked by Russian forces in the spring of 2022. During his visit, Prime Minister Modi is expected to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss humanitarian aid, peace efforts, and the role India can play in fostering dialogue.

Zelensky and Modi had met in June of this year during the G7 summit. The prime minister stated that India will "continue to do everything within its means to support a peaceful solution" and that India continues to advocate for a "peaceful resolution of the dispute via communication and diplomacy" throughout the conversation.

This visit is particularly historic as it marks the first time an Indian Prime Minister has officially visited both Poland and Ukraine in a single tour. It underscores India's growing influence and its role as a key player on the global stage. The visit is expected to pave the way for stronger diplomatic and economic ties with both nations, while also contributing to global efforts for peace and stability.
