The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) commissioned its indigenously built Fast Patrol Vessel, ICGS Ajit, at Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) on 09 October 2026, marking another significant milestone in India’s maritime security capabilities and the national vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
The commissioning ceremony was presided over by Dr. Sirish Choudhary, IDAS, Principal Integrated Financial Advisor (ICG).
Scheduled to be stationed at Okha, Gujarat, ICGS Ajit is a state-of-the-art vessel equipped with advanced weaponry and modern control systems. The vessel is designed to undertake a wide range of operational missions, including maritime surveillance, search and rescue (SAR), anti-smuggling operations and marine pollution response.
The induction of ICGS Ajit will further strengthen the Indian Coast Guard’s operational readiness and coastal security framework, enhancing its ability to safeguard India’s maritime interests and respond effectively to emerging challenges at sea.

The commissioning also highlights India’s growing indigenous defence shipbuilding capabilities and the contribution of domestic shipyards to strengthening the country’s maritime security infrastructure.
With its deployment at Okha, ICGS Ajit is set to play an important role in coastal surveillance, maritime law enforcement and the protection of India’s maritime zones.
