New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Friday evening sealed the office of news agency United News of India (UNI) at 9 Rafi Marg for allegedly violating the conditions of the land allotment.
On Friday, the Delhi High Court had upheld the Land and Development Office's decision to cancel the allotment of government land given to UNI to develop a joint office complex for media houses, and in the evening, some lawyers and the Delhi Police reached the campus with a heavy contingent.
Several videos have surfaced on social media showing a large number of police personnel on the UNI campus asking journalists and staff to vacate the office.
The UNI has alleged that its employees were forcibly evacuated from the office and many people were prevented from accessing their personal belongings. It has also been alleged that the employees were also misbehaved during this period.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Sachin Sharma told news agency PTI that the legal process was followed in vacating the office and nothing wrong happened as the entire process was videographed.
"The sealing of the office of United News of India, one of the oldest and most respected news agencies in the country, has raised serious concerns about press freedom," UNI wrote on X.
UNI has also shared a video in its post, in which a large number of policemen are seen in its office and the employees are alleging that they are being pushed.
