PM Modi and UAE President discuss complex bilateral ties
Modi visit UAE 2023

When Modi stopped in Abu Dhabi on his way back from Germany, the UAE government pulled out the red carpet for him. Instead of driving into the city, the UAE president personally greeted Modi at the airport, allowing the two leaders to hold talks there.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met and spoke with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on 15 July 2023, Saturday to expand the country's varied bilateral ties. Modi was given a ceremonial welcome here at the Qasr-Al-Watan - the presidential palace - where he was met with a loving embrace by the UAE President.

In Abu Dhabi, UAE, Prime Minister Narendra Modi meets with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Modi's visit to the UAE was scheduled to focus on energy, food security, and military, with the two countries reviewing bilateral relations after signing a significant trade pact last year.

The major goal of Modi's visit, according to the external affairs ministry, was to express his condolences on the demise of the former president, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, last month. He also congratulated Mohamed bin Zayed, the UAE's third president, on his election.

The UAE is a major source of oil for India, and Modi's visit is crucial since it coincides with predictions that Europe may begin seeking for long-term oil supply contracts from the region as it transitions away from Russian oil in the aftermath of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. India would want to keep its share of UAE oil.
