Biden Withdraws from 2024 race and endorses Kamala Harris Against Trump

On July 21, 2024, President Joe Biden announced that he would not seek re-election in the 2024 presidential race. Instead, he has thrown his full support behind Vice President Kamala Harris, endorsing her candidacy in a move that has reshaped the political landscape heading into the election.

The unexpected action has further shaken Democrats ahead of the election on November 5. However, it might also encourage the party that had been disoriented, as Harris quickly reaffirmed her intention to "fight Donald Trump" and become the first female president of the United States.

In a statement released hours after President Biden withdrew from the 2024 presidential contest due to unrest within the Democratic Party, Harris declared, " The President's endorsement is an honor, and I intend to merit and secure this nomination. I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party and our nation to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda."

Throughout several meetings at the president's vacation home over the weekend, Biden made his decision in consultation with White House counselor Steve Ricchetti, senior campaign adviser Mike Donilon, deputy chief of staff Annie Tomasini, and senior adviser to first lady Anthony Bernal, according to The Washington Post.

As the election season heats up, all eyes will be on Harris as she prepares to campaign for the highest office in the land. The coming months promise to be a defining period in American politics, with voters facing a choice that will shape the future of the nation.
