Bangladesh Police File Case Against Hindu Monk Chinmoy Das Over Alleged Communal Disharmony

A complaint was filed on Sunday regarding a confrontation that occurred on the court grounds in Chittagong between police and devotees of the Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das. Enamul Haque, a businessman and activist with Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, took the case before Md. Abu Bakar Siddique, the Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate. Haque claimed that on November 26, when he was leaving the court after completing his work on the land registration, he was accosted by followers of Chinmoy Krishna.

They singled me out as I had on a panjabi and a headpiece. The incident caused me to suffer brain problems and impairment to my right hand," Haque said. Onlookers rescued him, and he was brought to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

According to the sources, he was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital after being saved by onlookers. Haque explained the delay in filing the case by stating that it was due to a prolonged illness caused by the injuries sustained in the attack. Haque's right hand was broken during the attack, and he had brain injuries. According to his lawyer, Chinmoy Krishna is the main offender in this case.

The event is one of the clashes related to Chinmoy Krishna's arrest on sedition charges on November 25 at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. His detention has sparked widespread rallies by supporters, and tensions within Bangladesh's Hindu minority have escalated. Haque added that his protracted illness following the incident was the reason he took so long to file the case.

The incident has also drawn attention from international human rights groups, who have expressed concerns over the implications for religious minorities in Bangladesh. Amnesty International released a statement urging the government to uphold the principles of religious tolerance and ensure the safety of Chinmoy Das and his followers.

As the investigation unfolds, the case continues to polarize public opinion in Bangladesh. For many, it serves as a reminder of the challenges of balancing freedom of speech with the need to maintain social harmony in a multi-religious society.
