Union Budget 2024 Updates: Key Benefits for Salaried Individuals and Job Seekers Unveiled

As the Union Budget for the fiscal year 2024-2025 was unveiled, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman laid out several key measures aimed at benefiting salaried individuals and job seekers.

Nirmala Sitharaman presented her seventh budget, setting forward several priorities for stimulating economic growth and generating enough possibilities. These included employment and skill development, productivity and resilience in agriculture, and services.

One of the most anticipated announcements in the Union Budget 2024 is the increase in the basic income tax exemption limit. The government has raised the exemption limit from ₹2.5 lakh to ₹3 lakh, providing much-needed relief to salaried individuals. Additionally, the standard deduction for salaried employees has been increased from ₹50,000 to ₹75,000, offering further tax savings and boosting disposable income.

To address the growing concern of unemployment, the government has launched a new initiative called "Skill India Mission 2.0." This program aims to upskill and reskill over 10 million youth in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and renewable energy.

Furthermore, the budget allocates ₹10,000 crore towards the creation of job opportunities in various sectors, including manufacturing, technology, and services, with a special focus on rural employment.

In a move to secure the financial future of employees, the government has proposed an increase in the employer's contribution to the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) from the current 12% to 14%.

The Union Budget 2024 has placed significant emphasis on empowering women in the workforce. A new policy mandates a minimum of 33% reservation for women in public sector jobs. Additionally, there are provisions for enhanced maternity leave benefits, including an extension from 26 weeks to 36 weeks, and the introduction of subsidized childcare facilities at workplaces.

The Union Budget 2024 brings forth a series of progressive measures aimed at enhancing the financial well-being and job prospects of salaried individuals and job seekers. With tax relief, job creation initiatives, improved provident fund benefits, comprehensive health insurance, and support for women in the workforce, the budget sets a positive tone for India's economic growth and workforce development
