Wayanad landslide: When things get tough, you're not alone: PM Modi travels to areas hit by floods

Wayanad landslide: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the flood-hit areas of Kerala's Wayanad district on Saturday to assess the devastation caused by recent landslides. Upon arriving at Chooralmala, Modi met with displaced residents at a relief camp, where he spent time consoling survivors, including two children who had lost family members in the disaster.

Modi conducted an aerial survey of the hardest-hit regions Mundakkai, Chooralmala, and Punchirimattom before landing in Kalpetta. He was accompanied by Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and Union Minister Suresh Gopi. Upon arrival, the Prime Minister walked over a Bailey bridge, built by the Army, to inspect the damage firsthand and discuss the situation with local officials.

In his statement, Prime Minister Modi expressed deep sympathy for the affected communities, acknowledging the widespread destruction and the emotional toll on countless families. He reassured the survivors that they are not alone in this difficult time, pledging full support from the central government to aid recovery efforts.

Chief Minister Vijayan also emphasized the need for continued support, noting that a detailed report will be submitted to the central government outlining the assistance required. The disaster, which struck on July 30, has claimed 226 lives, with over 130 people still missing, and left hundreds injured. The Indian government has committed to working closely with the state government to address the ongoing challenges and provide the necessary relief.
