Uddhav Thackeray's NDA Return Post-Nitish?: Maharashtra Politics in Flux

Speculations rise about Uddhav Thackeray's reconsideration of NDA ties post-Nitish Kumar's return, reshaping the state's political dynamics.

Uddhav Thackeray's NDA Return Post-Nitish?: Maharashtra Politics in Flux

Mumbai: Recently in Bihar, it was observed that political parties are not permanently closing their doors to anyone. Although Amit Shah had assured the people that Nitish Kumar would never be accepted in the NDA again, Kumar was eventually taken back into the alliance. The BJP justified this by emphasizing their return to the people who had elected them in the assembly. Seemingly, another Gharwapsi may happen in near future in Maharashtra.

Despite Amit Shah's previous statement about not accepting Nitish Kumar back, he did so in Bihar. In contrast, there has been no such preemptive statement regarding Uddhav Thackeray in Maharashtra, after he left the NDA. The top leadership of the BJP did not make such a declaration. It was Thackeray who has kept saying that Amit Shah broke the promise made behind closed doors. But today, surprisingly, Thackeray expressed, during his Sindhudurg visit, that Modi was never his enemy and that he always supported him, expressing pure disappointment that Modi distanced himself.

Following Thackeray's statement, he, accompanied by his wife Rashmi Thackeray, traveled on the Vande Bharat Express. Meanwhile, Sanjay Raut, the outspoken Rajya Sabha MP from Thackeray's group, criticized Devendra Fadnavis, linking it to the alleged breakdown of law and order after a shooting by a BJP MLA at a police station. On the other hand, Thackeray's tone, however, appears to have shifted, with a reduction in the sharpness of criticism and a lingering sense of mere displeasure, when it came to Narendra Modi.

Interestingly, Rashmi Thackeray, who played a pivotal role in convincing Uddhav Thackeray to leave the NDA and lead the state through the Mahavikas Aghadi, was also present on the Vande Bharat journey. It seems she is working to steer Thackeray's course back on track, having initially diverted it in another direction. Perhaps inspired by Nitish Kumar's return, both Rashmi and Uddhav Thackeray seem more confident. The emerging picture suggests that the INDI Alliance may be coming to an end.

Uddhav Thackeray's altered tone becomes more significant as Aditya Thackeray's alleged involvement in the Disha Saliyan case could pose challenges. The BJP leader known for predicting arrests of various opposition leaders in Maharashtra, Mohit Kamboj, hinted at further developments on Twitter, in his tweet saying "Next Target: Surprise." This raises the possibility of issues related to Aditya Thackeray.  Besides, Sanjay Raut's intensified criticism of the BJP appears to be a strategic move, likely aimed at preventing Uddhav Thackeray's return to the NDA. It's evident whose directives Sanjay Raut is following in this scenario. The political landscape seems poised for further developments and uncertainties.Given the volatilty of Uddhav Thackeray's decision-making and the desperation, him rejoining the NDA may become a reality. PM Modi's confidence of the NDA scoring 400+ seats in the upcoming general elections is apprently coming from Maharshtra after partb of it came from Bihar.
