Thane, also known as Thana, is a Lok Sabha constituency located in the northwest of Maharashtra, near Mumbai and within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Often called the Elder Sister of Mumbai, Thane serves as the divisional headquarters of the state road transport service and spans approximately 147 square kilometers, divided into eastern and western regions.
Historically, the Thane Lok Sabha constituency was part of the Kolaba Lok Sabha constituency before becoming an independent seat. Initially dominated by socialists, it later became a stronghold of the Congress, and subsequently of the BJP and Shiv Sena. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Shiv Sena's Rajan Baburao Vichare won the seat with 740,969 votes, defeating Congress candidate Anand Paranjape, who received 328,824 votes. The voter turnout was 50.03%.
