Senior Congress leader Suresh Kalmadi passed away on today. He was 81 years old. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat and other leaders condoled his death.

The last rites of Suresh Kalmadi were performed at 5.15 pm today at Vaikunth crematorium, Navi Peth, Pune. "In the death of Kalmadi, we have lost a veteran leader in the country's politics, who was a man of struggle, who had a long legacy of public life," Pawar said.
