Priyanka Gandhi Sworn in as Lok Sabha MP, Completing Gandhi Family’s Presence Across Indian Parliament

With Priyanka's win, the three members of the Nehru-Gandhi family—Priyanka, Rahul, and Sonia—are in Parliament for the first time in decades.

Along with party leader Ravindra Vasantrao Chavan, Congress politician Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will take the oath of office as a member of the Lok Sabha on Thursday, November 28, marking the beginning of her electoral debut. Priyanka Gandhi’s resounding victory in the Wayanad bypolls, held earlier this month, was seen as a reaffirmation of the Congress party's stronghold in the region. She secured the seat with a decisive margin of over 4,10,000 votes, surpassing the victory margin of her predecessor and brother, Rahul Gandhi. This bypoll was necessitated after Rahul vacated the Wayanad seat, opting to represent Rae Bareli following the 2024 General Elections.

Expressing her gratitude, Priyanka described the victory as a testament to the trust and shared values of the people of Wayanad. Her induction is expected to add a dynamic voice to the opposition benches in the Lok Sabha, with party leaders lauding her entry as a step forward for Congress’s revival effort

With the victory in Wayanad, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra makes her electoral debut and will join her brother Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the House, in the Lok Sabha. Sonia Gandhi, their mother, is a Rajasthani member of the Rajya Sabha.

The oath-taking ceremony will be attended by several prominent Congress leaders and members of the INDIA bloc, who view her parliamentary debut as a critical boost to the opposition's strategy in addressing national issues. This development aligns with the Congress party’s broader goals to strengthen its influence in southern states like Kerala, where Wayanad is located.

Priyanka Gandhi’s entry into Parliament marks a historic milestone for the Gandhi family, as all three prominent members—Sonia, Rahul, and Priyanka—now hold legislative roles simultaneously. This highlights the continued relevance of the family in Indian political discourse, even as the Congress faces challenges on the national stage
