Dharmshala: Elections were conducted today for the Rajya Sabha seat in Himachal Pradesh, with heightened political tension throughout the state regarding potential cross voting. The election results have now been revealed, and it is notably intriguing. Both the BJP and Congress candidates secured an equal number of votes. Despite this, the Congress candidate gracefully accepted defeat.

Harsh Mahajan of the BJP emerged victorious in the Rajya Sabha seat elections, securing an equal number of votes with Congress candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi. The vote parity holds significance for the BJP amid speculation about cross voting.

In this election, both Congress and BJP garnered 34 votes each, and the final selection was made through a draw. Singhvi, the Congress candidate, conceded defeat, while Harsh Mahajan from the BJP emerged as the winner.

Jairam Thakur, the opposition leader, emphasized that with both candidates receiving an equal number of votes in the Rajya Sabha, the Chief Minister should resign. Thakur argued that the victory indicated a loss of support, with MLAs abandoning the Chief Minister within just one year. The state BJP asserted that their candidate, Harsh Mahajan, had indeed won the election.

Anticipating further political developments, the BJP is set to present a no-confidence motion against the Congress in the House tomorrow. During the vote counting, Chief Minister Sukhu accused the BJP of kidnapping Congress MLAs who were staying in Panchkula. These MLAs have now relocated to Shimla.
