The Kaushambi Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh is reserved for Scheduled Castes. The seat was formed in 2008 by merging two assembly constituencies of Pratapgarh district and Kaushambi district. Kaushambi is located at a distance of 55 km from Prayagraj city. It is one of the most backward districts in the state. The city receives the Most Backward Grant Fund. Basic necessities like education, employment, drinking water are in short supply.
Lok Sabha elections 2019: In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP's Vinod Sonkar retained the seat by securing 3,83,009 votes, followed by SP's Indrajit Saroj with 3,44,287 votes, Jansatta Dal (L) 's Shailendra Kumar with 1,56,406 votes and Independent candidate Shailendra Kumar with 26,967 votes. Congress candidate Girish Chandra Pasi got only 16,442 votes.
