Meerut, Uttar Pradesh: In a surprising announcement during a program at Shubharti University in Meerut on Sunday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament and Central Minister, Sanjeev Baliyan, has demanded the creation of a new state in Uttar Pradesh's western region, UP West, with Meerut as its capital.

 
This call for a new state comes nearly a decade after the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) party had made a similar demand in 2012, advocating for the formation of "Harit Pradesh" in the same region.

 
During his speech at the International Jaat Sansad program at Shubharti University, Sanjeev Baliyan highlighted the need for the division, citing the significant population of over 8 crore people residing in UP West. He argues that dividing the region would lead to better development opportunities and governance for the people.
