BJP Condemns Purulia Sadhu Attack, Alleges TMC Targeting Hindus in Bengal

Purulia: Video Emerges of Alleged Attack on Sadhus: In the Purulia district of West Bengal, a disturbing video depicting a group of Sadhus purportedly being assaulted by a mob has surfaced and is gaining traction on social media. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has seized upon the incident to criticize the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), while the TMC has not yet responded to these accusations.

The West Bengal BJP, in response to the video shared by the party's IT cell chief Amit Malviya on January 12, expressed on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), "Mamata Banerjee's profound silence is disconcerting. Are these revered individuals not deserving of your acknowledgment? 'Atrocities demand accountability." A 30-second clip is circulating on social media, allegedly showing a group of Sadhus being disrobed and assaulted by a mob. However, it's important to note that ABP News has not verified the authenticity of this footage.

Amit Malviya, the head of the BJP IT Cell, drew parallels between the recent incident in Purulia and the Palghar mob lynching that occurred in Maharashtra in 2020. He remarked, "A shocking incident has come to light from Purulia, West Bengal. Sadhus en route to Gangasagar for Makar Sankranti were allegedly disrobed and assaulted by individuals affiliated with the ruling TMC."

Malviya went on to assert that, in Bengal, being a Hindu is treated as a crime. He criticized the governance under Mamata Banerjee, stating, "Under Mamata Banerjee's rule, terrorists like Shahjahan Sheikh receive state protection, while sadhus are subjected to violence."

Adding to the condemnation, BJP Bengal President Sukanta Majumdar also targeted the Mamata Banerjee government in connection with the attack. He commented, "A shocking incident from Purulia. Sadhus heading to Gangasagar were reportedly disrobed and beaten by individuals associated with the TMC, reminiscent of the Palghar tragedy. Under Mamata Banerjee's administration, terrorists like Shahjahan receive state protection, whereas sadhus endure violence. In West Bengal, being a Hindu is depicted as a crime."
