Veteran Leader Killed as Aircraft Crashes During Landing in Pune District

Maharashtra DCM Ajit Pawar passed away: The incident that shook the politics of Maharashtra took place on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Anantrao Pawar died in a plane crash near Baramati airport. He was on his way to Baramati to campaign for Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections when the accident took place.

 

Ajit Pawar and some other passengers also died.

 

According to preliminary information, the aircraft went out of control during landing due to bad weather and technical failure. Ajit Pawar and some other passengers were also killed in the accident. Some people were seriously injured and are being treated at a nearby hospital. The rescue operation was carried out on a war footing. An inquiry has been initiated by the civil aviation department to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.

 

Meanwhile, the news of Ajit Pawar's death has spread grief across the state. The Chief Minister, cabinet colleagues, leaders of the opposition as well as various social, educational and cooperative organizations have expressed deep grief. Many leaders recalled his candor, administrative experience and working style that emphasized financial discipline.
