It is now Atishi who holds the command of Delhi. Atishi is Delhi's third female chief minister. Of the three women who have held the position of chief minister in the nation's capital, she is the youngest. Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena swore in Atishi as Delhi's seventh chief minister.

Atishi arrived at Raj Niwas wearing a blue saree to take the chief minister's oath. Arvind Kejriwal, national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), accompanied her. Kejriwal frequently sports a blue shirt as well. Atishi touched Kejriwal's feet and asked for his blessings after taking an oath. Atishi had met Kejriwal at the CM's house before to the event.

The first people to take the oath of office were Saurabh Bhardwaj, then Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Imran Hussain, and Mukesh Ahlawat. Atishi's reign will be short, though, as assembly elections are set for February in the nation's capital.

On September 15, Kejriwal arrived at the Aam Aadmi Party headquarters, two days after the Supreme Court had granted him bail in connection with the purported liquor scandal. After few days, Kejriwal tendered his resignation. "Until the people declare that Kejriwal is sincere, I will not take the CM's seat," I will visit every home and business, and I won't take the CM's chair until I get the people's opinion. Following this, Atish's name was revealed for the position of CM. The legislature party of the party met and decided to name Atishi as the new chief minister.

Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, the previous deputy chief minister, and other party leaders and MLAs were present at the swearing-in ceremony. In attendance were Speaker of the Delhi Assembly Ram Niwas Goel, Leader of the Opposition Vijender Gupta, Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra, BJP MP Sanjay Arora, and Commissioner of Delhi Police.
