Over 90 Fall Ill with Gastrointestinal Symptoms on Royal Caribbean Cruise

February 7, 2025, Tampa, Florida: In a concerning turn of events, more than 90 individuals aboard the Royal Caribbean's Radiance of the Seas cruise ship have fallen ill with gastrointestinal symptoms, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The ship, which embarked on a seven-day western Caribbean voyage from Tampa, Florida, on Saturday, saw 89 passengers and two crew members affected by the outbreak.

Passengers began exhibiting symptoms, including diarrhea and vomiting, during the cruise, which had scheduled stops in Mexico, Honduras, and Belize. The CDC's Vessel Sanitation Program was alerted to the situation on Tuesday, and investigations into the cause of the illness are ongoing. At present, the source remains unidentified.

The health of passengers aboard the Radiance of the Seas is being closely monitored as the ship returns to port. Royal Caribbean is reportedly working with health officials to contain the outbreak and ensure the safety of everyone onboard. Passengers impacted by the illness are receiving care, though no hospitalizations have been reported.

This incident raises renewed concerns about health protocols on cruise ships, especially during long voyages. The CDC is expected to provide further updates as more information becomes available.
