Chennai, October 7, 2024 – The Indian Maritime University (IMU) marked a momentous occasion today with its 9th Convocation, held at its headquarters in Chennai. A total of 1,974 students graduated, including four Doctoral Scholars (PhD) and one MS (by Research) Scholar. The event was presided over by Dr. Malini V Shankar, IAS (Retd.), Vice Chancellor of IMU, who delivered a thought-provoking Presidential Address and conferred degrees to the graduates.
Dr. Shankar presented the Annual Report of the university, outlining its progress and ongoing strategic initiatives, such as the establishment of the IMU Incubation Cell. She also announced that the university had signed more than five MoUs with prestigious national and international institutions, furthering IMU's commitment to advancing maritime education. Dr. Shankar emphasized the importance of aligning the university's goals with the Maritime India Vision 2030 and Maritime Amrit Kaal 2047, highlighting IMU's efforts in realizing these objectives.
The Chief Guest, Shri Harsh Vardhan Shringla, delivered an inspiring Convocation Address, encouraging the graduates to continuously hone their skills and remain proud ambassadors of India and IMU. Shri Shringla also presented medals to the top performers of the academic programs.
Of the 1,974 students, 256 received their degrees in person, while 1,718 were conferred their degrees in absentia. The event was a significant milestone in IMU's history and a testament to its dedication in producing skilled professionals for the global maritime sector. IMU is set to emerge as a leading global maritime university in the coming years.
