Bollywood actress Urmila Matondkar has reportedly filed for divorce from her husband of eight years, Mohsin Akhtar Mir. The news has sparked widespread speculation and curiosity about the couple's relationship, which, until recently, had been considered one of the more private and stable partnerships in the film industry.
It is yet unknown why the two couples reportedly broke up. "Urmila has chosen to call it quits on her marriage with Mohsin," a source stated, after giving it some thought. Her court case for divorce has already been filed. The cause for the separation remains unknown, but there is no amicable agreement behind the divorce."
On February 4, 2016, Urmila and Mohsin exchanged vows in a small ceremony. Their marriage had generated a lot of attention at the time due to its interfaith nature and the 10-year age difference between the couple. However, things seem to have soured after almost ten years of marriage.
Mohsin Akhtar Mir, an established model and businessman, hails from Kashmir. Before entering into the world of fashion, Mir tried his hand at acting but found greater success on the runway, modelling for top designers and earning accolades in the industry. His suave looks and charm quickly earned him a name in the fashion world, where he was often seen on prestigious platforms like Lakme Fashion Week.
In 2014, Mohsin and Urmila first connected during the wedding of designer Manish Malhotra's niece. In fact, when the couple decided to tie the knot in 2016, Manish was one of the few well-known people in attendance at their private wedding. After visiting the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Urmila and Mohsin attended a Nikah.
Coming to Mir, he had desires of becoming a Bollywood star of his own, having moved to Mumbai at the age of twenty-one from Kashmir. After making his feature film debut in It is A Man's World (2009), he went on to work on films such as B.A. Pass (2012), Mumbai Mast Kallander (2011), and Luck By Chance (2009). He ultimately decided to capitalise on his commercial expertise and is currently purportedly connected to Manish Malhotra's company.
The exact reasons behind the alleged split are still unclear, and both Urmila Matondkar and Mohsin Akhtar Mir have remained tight-lipped about the matter. Their marriage, which spanned eight years, was viewed as a strong, harmonious union. However, whispers of growing differences between the two have been circulating in industry circles.
Urmila Matondkar, who continues to command respect for her work in Indian cinema, has also made waves in recent years with her political career. As for Mohsin Akhtar Mir, his professional journey is expected to continue along its entrepreneurial path. Whether the two will address the rumours or maintain their long-standing silence on personal matters remains to be seen.
