Varanasi police have issued a notice to folk singer Neha Singh Rathore in connection with a case registered in 2025 alleged objectionable remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
An official confirmed the development on Thursday. According to the police, the notice is part of the formal steps being taken as the process of filing the charge sheet in the case is getting closer to the process.
The case continues to garner attention due to Rathore's public image and the political nature of the allegations. Lanka Police Station in-charge Rajkumar Sharma said that a case was registered against Neha Singh Rathore in 2025 for allegedly making derogatory remarks about the Prime Minister.
He further said that the notice was issued to him on Wednesday as part of the process of filing the charge sheet in the case and asserted that the action was taken as per standard legal procedure.
Police officials have said that the notice has been issued strictly in accordance with the law, and it is directly related to the case registered last year.
He reiterated that there was no violation of the process of law in the case. Reacting to the notice, Neha Singh Rathore wrote on X that policemen from the Lanka police station in Varanasi had also reached her house after being called earlier from the Hazratganj police station in Lucknow.
She wrote in her post, "The kind of promptness and effort that is being put into harassing me, I wish the same promptness and effort had been put in getting justice for Patna's daughter.
