Film producer and director Ekta Kapoor was honored with the 2023 International Emmy Directorate Award at 51st International Emmy Awards Gala, which was held in New York City on 20 November 2023. Ekta Kapoor has become the first Indian woman filmmaker to receive the honor. The award was presented by the renowned author Deepak Chopra. 

"It gives me great pleasure to accept the esteemed Emmys Directorate Award! I am incredibly happy and joyful to be recognized on such a worldwide level. Storytelling has always been a passion of mine since it allows me to be seen, heard, and represented. I am appreciative of the support from the audience, which has made it possible for me to move from television to the world of movies and over-the-top content. Every tale I shared served as a means of establishing a multifaceted connection with my listeners. The surprising detours this trip made are evidence of the strength of the affection bestowed by the people of India and beyond. I have a lot of gratitude in my heart and am more determined than ever to use my profession to positively influence people." Ekta said.

Under the banner of Balaji Telefilms, Ekta is responsible for some of the most well-known Indian TV series, including the genre-defining Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhie Bahu Thi, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, Kkusum, Pavitra Rishta, and Kasautii Zindagii Kay.

Along with this, in 2001 she made her debut as a Bollywood film producer with Kyo Kii... Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta. Her stable of films also includes Shor in the City, Kyaa Kool Hai Hum, Mission Istanbul, Love Sex aur Dhokha, Shootout at Lokhandwala, and Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai. Dream Girl 2, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, was her most recent release.

Ektaa Kapoor first revealed the news of her nomination back in August, expressing, "I'm overwhelmed with gratitude and excitement to be recognized." I will always treasure this award because it represents a journey beyond the workplace. Being able to use this prestigious platform to represent my country internationally is an honor beyond words. For me, television has been a self-discovery compass, especially as a woman telling stories for other women. This honor gives me the confidence to represent them and our common accomplishments on the international scene.
