Central Sudan Village Attacked by Paramilitary Force, Over 100 Killed (Reports)

Pro-democracy activists in Sudan allege the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) attacked a village in central Sudan, killing at least 100 people. The attack on Wad al-Noura village reportedly occurred on June 5th, 2024, with activists claiming the RSF used heavy weaponry. Images of a mass grave and reports of ignored pleas for help from villagers have surfaced on social media. Independent confirmation of the death toll is awaited due to communication blackouts. This incident follows ongoing tensions between the RSF and the Sudanese army.

At least 100 people reportedly killed

Local activists in Sudan are accusing the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of attacking a village in Gezira state, killing as many as 100 people. The attack, which allegedly took place on Wednesday, June 5th, 2024, targeted the village of Wad al-Noura.

Pro-democracy activists, specifically the Wad Madani Resistance Committees, shared information on social media claiming the RSF attacked the village "in two waves," using heavy artillery. Gruesome images were also circulated, depicting what activists described as a mass grave in the village square. The committees further alleged the Sudanese army ignored pleas for help from villagers.

There are currently no independent confirmations on the exact death toll. Communication blackouts in the region have made verification difficult for journalists. However, Mini Arko Minawi, governor of Darfur province, acknowledged the violence, posting a video on social media showing shrouded bodies.

This incident, if confirmed, would be the latest in a series of clashes between the RSF and civilians. Tensions between the paramilitary group and the regular army have been simmering for over a year, erupting into violence in 2023. The conflict reportedly centers on disputes regarding force integration.
