Heavy Rainfall in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh: 140 Trains Cancelled, NDRF Deployed, IMD Issues Red Alert

Heavy rainfall continues to lash Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, leading to widespread disruptions and prompting the cancellation of 140 trains. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several districts in both states, warning of more intense downpours in the coming days.

The unrelenting rainfall has caused significant waterlogging and flooding in low-lying areas, with rivers and reservoirs nearing or surpassing their danger levels. In response to the escalating situation, 26 teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed across the affected regions to assist in rescue and relief operations.

Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana A Revanth Reddy were assured of all possible assistance from the federal government during a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The IMD has issued a red alert for multiple districts, including Hyderabad, Warangal, and Nizamabad in Telangana, and Krishna, Guntur, and East Godavari in Andhra Pradesh. The department has predicted extremely heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms, which could lead to flash floods and further exacerbate the current situation.

The heavy rainfall has brought daily life to a standstill in many parts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Schools and colleges in the worst-hit areas have been closed as a precautionary measure. Several roads are inundated, making transportation difficult, and power outages have been reported in some regions due to the flooding of electrical substations.
