Telangana Legislative Assembly Election Results Live Update

Indian National Congress won 2023 Telangana Legislative Assembly Election. Party won on 64 seats out of total 119. Governor receives CM KCR's resignation; Congress will probably hold a swearing-in ceremony on December 4 or 9.

The southern consolation comes amid a saffron sweep of the Hindi heartland, where BJP wrested two states from its rival and retained one. The Congress is on its way to reach the magic mark of 60 seats on Sunday to form the first non-BRS government in Telangana.

After winning in Karnataka in May, Telangana becomes the second southern state in Congress' kitty in 2023. According to the most recent Election Commission data, the Mallikarjun Kharge-led party won 47 seats and was leading in an additional 17, having established a nearly impregnable lead over the ruling BRS. With 101 members in the outgoing Assembly, the BRS won 22 of them and was in the lead in 17.

In response to his party's dismal performance, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao submitted his resignation to the Governor. The leader of the Congress's charge, Anumula Revanth Reddy, is in line to become the next chief minister. The 56-year-old leader met with state police chiefs to talk about security plans for the swearing-in ceremony, which is scheduled for December 4 or 9.

The Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS), led by KCR, established Telangana's first government in 2014 and won the election again in 2018. "It is a mandate from the people. There is no need for a postmortem. If all goes according to plan, only you will obtain that magical number. The idea is straightforward: people desired change. Their goal was to overthrow KCR (CM Rao). KCR has been vanquished by them. That's all." Reddy informed the media.

Notwithstanding the party's wide-ranging grassroots network and welfare initiatives, as well as CM KCR's towering persona, the growing anti-incumbency sentiment was partly fueled by the leaders' alleged inaccessibility. This feeling was further aggravated by the opposition's projection of what they referred to as the BRS family rule in the state. In an effort to overthrow BRS, the Congress mounted a vigorous campaign, and the BJP similarly launched an unrelenting assault on the current government.

An EC update showed that the BJP had improved its tally, winning 6 seats and leading in 2 other segments. In the departing Assembly, it has three members. AIMIM led in two and won five seats. Follow TOI to keep up with the most recent updates.
