Chess Olympiad 2024: With their success at the Budapest Chess Olympiad, India's men's and women's chess teams have captured the hearts of everybody. With this historic victory, the Indian team won their first-ever double gold medal. This has put the team's name in the annals of history as a whole.
India made history in the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest by winning its first double gold medal. India won its first gold medal in the open category because to the men's team's outstanding performance against Slovenia in the final round. After winning their individual matches, Arjun Erigaisi and Gukesh Domaraju took home the coveted gold medal for their team.
The men's team performed remarkably well throughout the competition and finished as the only unbeaten team. Arjun and Gukesh were in superb form, winning important matches when it mattered most. The assistance of Praggnanandhaa, Harikrishna Pentala, and Vidit Gujrathi contributed to their outstanding accomplishment.
The women's team had an easier time winning; all they had to do was defeat Azerbaijan and hope that Kazakhstan would lose to the United States. With wins by Divya Deshmukh, Harika Dronavalli, and Vantika Agrawal, the Indian women's team defeated Azerbaijan 3.5-0.5 to take home the gold medal. Grandmaster Irina Krush was upset earlier on Friday by International Master Vantika Agrawal, who helped India earn a 2-2 tie with the US in the ninth round of competition. Grandmaster D Harika was rested by the Indian think tank, but it had no effect on the top board results as Divya Deshmukh and R Vaishali both played to easy draws against Carissa Yip and Gulrukhbegim Tokhirjonova. Despite being in a great position, Tania Sachdev was unable to make the best attacking plays on the fourth board and had to settle for a draw with Alice Lee. This offered Vantika a chance to tie the game, and the young player gave it her all to overcome her opponent who was ranked higher.
