Kalindi Express Hits LPG Cylinder on Tracks in Kanpur, Police Suspect 'Attempt to Derail'

A potential disaster was averted in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, after the Kalindi Express struck an LPG cylinder placed on the railway tracks early Monday morning. Authorities are investigating the incident as an “attempt to derail” the train, which could have led to a major catastrophe.

The incident occurred near the Panki railway station in Kanpur, when the Delhi-bound Kalindi Express, carrying hundreds of passengers, collided with the cylinder. Fortunately, the train remained on the tracks, and no injuries were reported among the passengers or crew.

Local police were immediately alerted to the scene, where they found the mangled remains of the LPG cylinder. The area was cordoned off, and forensic teams were dispatched to gather evidence. Initial investigations suggest that the cylinder was deliberately placed on the tracks, raising concerns of foul play.

The LPG cylinder was placed on the tracks in an effort to derail the Kalindi Express. Senior cops hurried to the scene and started an investigation as soon as they received the information. A senior police official said, "The Railway Protection Force is also looking into the matter, and the forensics unit was called in."

The loco pilot, or driver, saw the object and engaged the emergency brakes. The train struck the cylinder and then stopped, but the impact caused the cylinder to move off the tracks.

As investigations continue, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities near railway tracks. The police have also announced a reward for information leading to the arrest of those involved in the incident. The Kalindi Express resumed its journey after a thorough inspection of the train and tracks, with passengers expressing relief that what could have been a tragic event was narrowly avoided.
