Air India Flight to New York Diverted to Delhi After Bomb Threat, Passengers Safely Evacuated

An Air India flight bound for New York was unexpectedly diverted to Delhi today after a bomb threat was reported mid-flight, causing concern among passengers and prompting swift action from authorities.

Flight AI-102, which had taken off from Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, was en route to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York when the threat was detected. Approximately three hours into the flight, the airline received an anonymous warning, forcing the aircraft to turn back as a precautionary measure.

The Boeing 777, carrying 342 passengers and 16 crew members, made a safe landing at Delhi's IGI Airport under heightened security measures. Upon touchdown, all passengers were immediately evacuated from the plane while the bomb squad and security teams inspected the aircraft. Emergency services, including firefighters and paramedics, were on standby.

"All passengers were safely disembarked, and a thorough search of the aircraft and luggage is being conducted," said an Air India spokesperson. "We are cooperating fully with local law enforcement to ensure the safety of everyone involved."

Delhi Police and security agencies have launched an investigation into the source of the bomb threat. Preliminary reports suggest that it may have been a hoax, but authorities are taking no chances. Passengers were escorted to a secure airport area, and the ordeal visibly shook several.

The incident caused disruptions to both domestic and international flights at the busy Delhi airport, with several flights being delayed or rerouted as a precaution. Officials are working to minimize the impact on airport operations. Passengers aboard the diverted flight are expected to undergo security checks before being rebooked on alternate flights to New York or other destinations. Air India has apologized for the inconvenience caused to travelers and assured them that their safety is the airline’s top priority.
