48 people died and many were evacuated due to flooding in Assam and Manipur

The flood situation in both the northeastern states of Assam and Manipur is much worse as heavy rain continues to pour. In addition to thousands being relocated to rescue shelters, floods in both states have claimed the lives of dozens of people and destroyed numerous homes and buildings.

Boats were deployed by the Army, Assam Rifles, state police, Manipur Fire Service, NDRF and SDRF troops, and local volunteers to rescue flood victims and provide food and water packages.

Since the second wave of flooding has affected over 16.25 lakh people in 29 districts, the overall situation concerning flooding in Assam remains critical. In the meantime, Manipur has evacuated more than 2000 residents from regions that were severely flooded. Between the two states, 48 flood-related deaths have been reported, with 46 of those occurring in Assam and 2 in Manipur. On Wednesday, eight people died in Assam from drowning in floodwaters, while two more lost their lives in Manipur.

The central government said that it will provide Assam and Manipur with more manpower, boats, and life-saving supplies as well as its complete support for the states affected by flooding.
