Annamalai Alleges High-Level Cover-Up in Anna University Assault Case

In the wake of the Anna University sexual assault case, Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai has leveled serious allegations against the ruling DMK government, claiming a concerted effort to shield the accused and suppress justice.

Accusations Against DMK and Police Officials

Annamalai asserts that the accused, Gnanasekaran, is not only a repeat offender with over 20 prior cases but also holds a position as the deputy organizer of the DMK's Saidai East student wing. He questions why such a habitual offender was not under police surveillance and suggests that political affiliations may have influenced law enforcement's inaction.

Further intensifying his claims, Annamalai points to a DMK minister who allegedly visited the accused's residence and shared a meal, implying a close relationship that could hinder impartial investigations. He also criticizes Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, a former syndicate member of Anna University, for his silence and inaction regarding campus safety measures during his tenure.

Demand for Transparency and Accountability

Highlighting systemic issues, Annamalai calls for the release of a delayed police reforms report commissioned by the DMK-led government. He emphasizes the need for transparency and questions the government's commitment to justice, especially when political figures are allegedly involved.

Political Repercussions and Public Outcry

The case has sparked widespread political controversy, with opposition parties, including the AIADMK, echoing demands for a thorough and unbiased investigation. The public's trust in the government's ability to ensure safety and justice is being tested, as calls for accountability grow louder.
