A major wildfire erupted in Nagaland’s Dzükou Valley, leading to the rescue of four trekkers and prompting authorities to impose an immediate ban on trekking activities to ensure public safety.
The wildfire broke out in the western sector of Dzükou Valley, a region known for its natural beauty, biodiversity, and popular trekking routes. Dry vegetation and strong winds caused the flames to spread quickly, putting trekkers and local wildlife at risk.
Rescue teams, including forest officials, disaster management units, and volunteers from nearby villages, launched immediate operations. Four trekkers who were on the trail at the time of the incident were located and safely evacuated to Khonoma village.
In light of the situation, all trekking activities have been suspended until further notice. Authorities emphasised the need for travellers to avoid the area to allow emergency teams to work without obstruction.
Environmental experts warn that Dzükou Valley, home to unique flora and fauna, faces significant ecological damage if the fire continues. Detailed assessments will be conducted after the blaze is controlled.
The administration has urged people to follow safety advisories and cooperate with the ongoing firefighting and monitorin
g efforts.
