The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released the 2026 list of fake universities, warning students and parents to remain cautious before taking admission in any institution. According to the commission, 32 institutions across different states in India are operating illegally and are not authorized to grant degrees.
The UGC has clarified that these institutions do not have the authority under the UGC Act to award degrees, and any qualification obtained from them will not be recognized for jobs or higher education. Many of these universities are operating under misleading names similar to recognized institutions.
Students are advised to verify the authenticity of any university through the official UGC website before applying for admission to avoid financial loss and academic setbacks.
