Delhi residents braved scorching heat on Wednesday as the temperature soared to a scorching 52.9 degrees Celsius, four degrees above normal. However, there's a caveat: a Union Minister has warned that the worst of the heat is yet to come.
While Delhiites reeled under the intense heat, the weather department offered a glimmer of hope. They predicted some respite from the heatwave in the coming days, with the possibility of light rain and thunderstorms.
"The peak of the summer season is yet to come and it is likely to hit the city after June 15," said Union Minister for Earth Sciences Harsh Vardhan. He assured that his ministry is closely monitoring the situation and issuing heatwave warnings to keep people informed.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast partly cloudy skies with a chance of light rain or thunderstorms on Thursday. The minimum temperature for the day was recorded at 28.4 degrees Celsius, which is one degree above normal.
Even though the temperature reading of 52.9 degrees Celsius seems alarming, it's important to note that the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) is investigating the data as it could be due to an error in a sensor or local factors. They are examining data from other weather stations in Delhi, which recorded temperatures ranging from 45.2°C to 49.1°C.
