February 7, 2024, Chandigarh: Actor Samaira Sandhu was named a state icon by the state election commission during a program held on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at the Government College of Education in Chandigarh. The program was organized by the UT department of social welfare.

Samaira Sandhu said, "Voting is a privilege that carries a great deal of responsibility because we live in a democratic nation where citizens of all races, religions, and social classes are entitled to vote. As a representative of the state, I pledge to inform Chandigarh voters about the importance of taking part in the upcoming general election in 2024."

Palika Arora, the nodal officer for the Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program, and Sorabh Arora, the joint chief electoral officer of Chandigarh, were present at the event.

At the conclusion of the event, the winner of a poster-making contest with the theme of electoral literacy was honored.

Samaira Sandhu is a film actress from Chandigarh. She has worked in the films Dhayam, Damayanthi, Umran Ch Ki Rakheya, Bharateeyans and Aliya. Sandhu is also an author of the book 'Heaven in a Hell', published in 2016. She has also worked with the notable singers Babbu Maan, Javed Ali, Pammi Bai and Jaspinder Narula. In November 2023, Sandhu launched her own beauty brand 'S by Samaira'.
