During a political rally on 25 November 2023, Saturday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that if the BJP is elected, Hyderabad will be renamed Bhagyanagar.
Telangana's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit president G Kishan Reddy declared on Monday that if the BJP wins power in the state, it will rename Hyderabad "Bhagyanagar."
"Chief Ministers Yogi Adityanath and Himanta Biswa Sarma have already stated that once we come to power, we will rename Hyderabad." "We renamed Madras to Chennai, Calcutta to Kolkata, Bombay to Mumbai, and Rajpath to Kartavya Path," Reddy told Press.
"So, why should Hyderabad not be renamed?" What is the name Hyder?...Bhagyanagar is its ancient name; it was renamed during the Nizam regime. When we come to power, we will rename it Bhagyanagar," the BJP leader promised.
"Hyderabad was founded by the Congress. The BRS government here does not allow you to celebrate September 17, like the BJP would if they were elected. "We have come to build Bhagyanagar," Adityanath stated during a rally in Telangana's Ghoshmahal constituency. It was the second time the UP chief minister had addressed the name change issue, following his 'Bhagyanagar' effort during the 2020 Hyderabad municipal elections.
Yogi's government in Uttar Pradesh renamed cities like Allahabad to Prayagraj and Faizabad to Ayodhya. There is also talk of renaming Aligarh Harigarh, Mainpuri Mayan Nagar, Firozabad Chandra Nagar, and Mirzapur Vidhya Dham.
