A massive fire broke out near Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, forcing authorities to suspend all flight operations temporarily for safety reasons.
According to local reports, thick plumes of smoke could be seen billowing near the airport premises, causing panic among passengers and residents in the surrounding areas. The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) immediately halted incoming and outgoing flights as a precautionary measure.
Emergency response teams, including multiple fire engines, rushed to the site to contain the blaze. Preliminary information suggests that the fire originated in a nearby warehouse or industrial area adjacent to the airport boundary, but officials have yet to confirm the exact cause.
Passengers inside the airport were evacuated from certain terminals as safety protocols were enforced. Authorities have also urged travelers to check flight schedules before heading to the airport as delays and cancellations are expected throughout the day.
Witnesses described the fire as one of the most intense in recent years, with flames visible from several kilometers away. No casualties have been reported so far, but officials are closely monitoring the situation.
Local residents have been advised to stay indoors and avoid the affected zone due to heavy smoke and toxic fumes spreading in nea
rby areas.
