Move Expected to Support India’s Oil and LPG Supply Stability

Iran’s decision to allow passage through Hormuz could ease concerns over energy supply disruptions.

Iran Allows Passage for Indian Ships Through Strait of Hormuz, Says Foreign Minister

New Delhi. Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Thursday that he has allowed ships from many other friendly countries, including India, to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said, "We have given permission for friendly countries like China, Russia, India, Iraq and Pakistan to pass through the Strait of Hormuz."

This announcement from Iran has come after the comments of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, in which he had talked about opening the Hormuz.

What will be the benefit to India?

The opening of the Strait of Hormuz is necessary and beneficial for India, as more than 2.5-2.7 million barrels of crude oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) come to India daily from the Middle East through this route. It is important to keep the Strait of Hormuz open to ensure a steady supply of them.

Supply will be stable

There was a discussion about the shortage of LPG for several days. However, the government said the situation was under control. But now that the Strait of Hormuz will be opened, the supply of oil and gas in India will be normal. This will also improve LPG distribution and put an end to speculation of fuel price hike.
