750 acres of Aravalli hill area in Gurugram to become dense forest; 3 villages to be included in the first phase

The Haryana Forest Department has launched the 'Matruvan Yojana' with the aim of reviving the ever-decreasing greenery of the Aravalli mountain range. Under this ambitious plan, about 750 acres of hilly area of Gurugram district will be converted into dense forest area.

In the first phase, planting will be done in 3 villages.

The forest department has identified parts of the Aravalis where the greenery has been severely damaged due to mining and encroachment. In the first phase of the Matruvan scheme, plantation will be done on a large scale on the land of three villages. The area is spread over the hills near Gurugram.

Greenbelt to be developed on 750 acres

Under the scheme, 750 acres of land will be developed as a green belt in selected areas, including Haiderpur, Viran, and Wazirabad. Intensive plantation will not only improve the groundwater table but also help in reducing air pollution.

Private companies and agencies became partners.Six major private agencies and companies have agreed to collaborate with the forest department to make the project a success. These companies will take up the responsibility of plantation and conservation through their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) fund.

Special attention will be paid to long-term maintenance.According to forest department officials, the partnership is based on a long-term agreement. Usually, plants are destroyed due to lack of maintenance after plantation, but in the Matruvan scheme, concrete arrangements have been made for regular care and conservation of plants.

The special thing is that this entire scheme will not put any additional burden on the government exchequer, and it is considered to be a major step towards reviving the ecosystem of Aravalis with the participation of the private sector.
