Delhi government issues flood alert as continuous rainfall raises water levels and triggers precautionary measures across the city.
Authorities have warned citizens to stay cautious, especially in low-lying areas. The continuous downpour has led to severe waterlogging, traffic jams, and a rise in Yamuna river levels, prompting the government to activate emergency response systems.
According to officials, the water level in the Yamuna river has been rising due to heavy rain in Delhi as well as in the upstream regions. Low-lying areas near the river are at risk of flooding, and residents have been advised to shift to safer zones if necessary. The Irrigation and Flood Control Department is closely monitoring the situation.
Emergency teams including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) have been kept on standby. Drainage pumps are being deployed in waterlogged areas to ease the situation.
The Delhi Traffic Police have also issued advisories urging people to avoid waterlogged routes and plan their travel accordingly. Schools and colleges in some affected regions may remain closed if the situation worsens.
The government has assured citizens that all precautionary measures are being taken and appealed for cooperation in following safety guidelines. Residents have also been urged to avoid going near overflowing drains or water bodies.
If heavy rainfall continues, the situation could escalate further, and evacuation plans are in place for vulnerable areas. Citizens are advised to keep emergency contact numbers handy and stay updated with official weather and flood alerts.
