US, Russia Hold Secret Talks to End Ukraine War; Kyiv Left Out

The US and Russia had a major summit in Riyadh to talk about peace and fortify their relationship as the Russia-Ukraine war nears its three-year milestone

US, Russia Hold Secret Talks to End Ukraine War; Kyiv Left Out

At a high-level summit in Riyadh on Wednesday, the United States and Russia decided to cooperate to end the conflict in Ukraine and foster stronger diplomatic and commercial relations. The gathering took place as the third anniversary of the crisis in Ukraine approached.

Following the discussion, Rubio told that the US and Russia had decided to concentrate on and accomplish three key objectives: re-establishing staffing at their respective embassies in both nations, assembling a high-level team to work towards peace negotiations in Ukraine, and investigating deeper ties and economic collaboration.

Lavrov added, "We not only listened, but also heard each other," and described the discussion as "extremely fruitful." "There are indications that the American side has begun to comprehend our stance more clearly," he continued.

There was no Ukrainian representative at the conference, which sought to advance peace in the nation. Under Biden's leadership, Ukraine's involvement in these discussions was essential, thus this represents a significant diplomatic shift in how the US has handled the war under the Trump administration. Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, added that since his nation did not take part in the negotiations, it will not accept the results.

Donald Trump also stated following the meeting that Russia wants to stop its war with Ukraine, which he described as "barbarianism." "Russia wants to take action. The barbarism that is occurring there is something they wish to put an end to. Every week, thousands of soldiers are being slain. Numerous Koreans have been slain in addition to Russian and Ukrainian military. At a White House press conference, he declared, "We want to end it."

As diplomatic efforts continue, the world watches closely to see whether these discussions will pave the way for peace—or deepen divisions in the already complex geopolitical landscape.
