Princess Diana's Elegance on Display: Auction Features Gowns, Shoes, and Handbags

Fans of Princess Diana's timeless style will have a chance to own a piece of history this week. A major auction of Diana's memorabilia, the largest since her passing, is underway in Beverly Hills, California.

The collection boasts nearly 50 items, including gowns designed by renowned names like Victor Edelstein and Catherine Walker. One of the highlights is a midnight blue tulle dress by Murray Arbeid, worn by Diana to the London premiere of "The Phantom of the Opera" in 1986. This gown, along with a magenta lace dress by Edelstein, is estimated to fetch up to $400,000.

"We are here celebrating Princess Diana's elegance," said Gabriela Schwartz of Julien's Auctions, which is hosting the event.

Beyond the exquisite gowns, the auction features shoes, handbags, and even hats. Some of the footwear comes from prestigious designers like Salvatore Ferragamo. There are also letters written in Diana's own hand, offering a glimpse into her personal life.

This auction follows the sale of one of Diana's dresses last year, which fetched a staggering $1.14 million. With such high stakes and the global interest surrounding Princess Diana, this week's event is expected to generate significant buzz.
