From centuries, beauty pageants have been dictating their contestants as to how they are to appear in order to qualify for rounds and win the title. It is unfair that even in the year 2023, a woman choosing to be comfortable in her skin and be confident, has gotten attention just because she had short hair and managed to win the title of Miss France 2024.
The 20 year old, Eve Gilles, who won the pageant, was the only contestant who had cropped short hair.
After winning the title, she stated her views that all woman are different and nobody has the right to dictate anyone on how they are supposed to appear.
The viewers had passed sexist comments on her winning the crown but it was just a way of showcasing ‘diversity’ according to Gilles.
The choice of her androgynous look was just a way to symbolize her individuality. While some people criticized this decision while others stood with the Crown winner and praised her for being her unique self.
It is high time that we as society stop stereotyping people and go beyond fixed beauty standards and sexism.
It should also be considered that most contestants abuse themselves all their lives to achieve these phantasmagorical criterias and battle unhealthy ways to win the crown.
It was a necessary step taken by the winner to prove herself, break existing criteria’s, and make people reconsider them.
