In their final group stage match at the Paris Olympics 2024, the Indian men's hockey team faced Australia. Australia lost 3-2 to India. In the encounter on August 2 (Friday), India's goals came from Abhishek in the 18th minute and captain Harmanpreet Singh in the 13th and 33rd. The Kangaroos' goals came from Thomas Craig in the 25th and Blake Govers in the 55th.
After fifty-two years, the Indian hockey team beat Australia in the Olympic Games. Since the Munich Olympics in 1972, India has never before defeated Australia in an Olympic competition. The Indian squad achieved a significant victory. India had advanced to the semifinals earlier.

India took a 3-1 lead in the third quarter thanks to a penalty shot made by captain Harmanpreet Singh of India. Excitingly, the Australian squad gave it their all in the final quarter to try and win the game. Even though Blake Govers scored in the 55th minute on a penalty kick, it was insufficient to either win or tie the game.
The Indian squad defeated New Zealand 3-2 in its opening game to win the Olympic medal in Tokyo, its first in 41 years. After that, they tied 1-1 with Argentina. India defeated England 2-0 in the third game. However, they were defeated 1-2 by Belgium, the defending Olympic champions.
