Imran Khan, Pakistan's Ex- PM, has been condemned to three years in prison and barred from politics for five years.
on Saturday, 5 August 2023, Imran Khan, Pakistan's former prime minister, was reportedly arrested after a trial court sentenced him to three years in prison for illegally selling official gifts, popularly known as the Toshakhana corruption case, and barred him from politics for five years.
"Judge Humayun Dilawar announced that involvement in corrupt practises has been proven," according to Pakistan TV. Khan did to appear in court for the hearing, and the judge issued an arrest warrant for him.
The court fined the Tehreek-e-Insaf head Rs100,000, according to Dawn. Khan was accused in the case on May 10 after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) filed a criminal complaint against him for hiding information of Toshakhana gifts.
During the hearing on Saturday, extra district and sessions judge Dilawar concluded that the former prime minister's charges in the case had been proven.
Legal experts believe that if Imran Khan is convicted in the case, he will be unable to run in national elections scheduled for early November.
"Imran Khan deliberately submitted fake details to the Election Commission of Pakistan and is found guilty of corrupt practises," said the judge, who sentenced the PTI head to three years in prison under Section 174 of the Election Act, according to Dawn.
Dilawar further ordered that a copy of the order be submitted to the Islamabad police chief in order for the court instructions to be carried out.
